The Philippine Bureau of Plant Industry, the government agency that regulates field trials of genetically modified crops, has halted a second field trial on GM insect-resistant Bt aubergines, reports newswire Scidev.net.
Approval for the trials being conducted at the Visayas State University (Baybay) was suspended along with that for those at the University of the Philippines (Mindanao). Trials at the latter location were uprooted in December on orders of the mayor of the Philippine city of Mindanao.
