Genetic Engineering and Organic Farming Working Together to Feed the World: A Visionary New Approach
MADISON, Wis. - Pamela Ronald, Ph.D. and Raoul Adamchak, authors of “Tomorrow’s Table: Organic Farming, Genetics, and the Future of Food,” will provide the opening keynote at BioFoward’s 2011 Bioscience Vision Summit.
Ronald, a plant geneticist at University of California-Davis, and Adamchak, the manager of the certified organic Market Garden at the Student Farm at University of California-Davis, are spouses, and co-authored the book.
“Ronald and Adamchak’s clear, rational approach is refreshing, and the balance they present is sorely needed in our increasingly polarized world” (Science Magazine, 2008).
According to Ronald, “To meet the appetites of the world’s population without drastically hurting the environment requires a visionary new approach: combining genetic engineering and organic farming.” Ronald and Adamchak will discuss the work of geneticists and organic farmers, as well as the science behind the passionate arguments surrounding genetic engineering and organic agriculture.
“We are delighted that two such acclaimed authors will be speaking at our annual summit,” said Bryan Renk, Executive Director of BioForward. “Tomorrow’s Table has been recognized by Seed Magazine and the Library Journal, and has been highlighted by Bill Gates in discussions about feeding the world’s population.”
