When it comes to agricultural biotechnology in Central America, Foreign Agricultural Service Administrator John Brewer says that Honduras is the most forward leaning with regard to biotechnology.
"It is the only country in the region that has actually allowed biotech crop tests within its borders," Brewer said.
Brewer and a FAS delegation visited Honduras recently to see first hand the progress on the biotechnology front. The trip included a view of a variety of vegetables grown through biotechnology, which Brewer says gives a preview of the future of biotech production in that country.
"We think that given their commitment to biotechnology that they are really going to push the envelope," Brewer said. "They are going to really try to find out how this technology can assist them in their agricultural strategy and help them move forward on that.
