Multan - The area under early sown Bt cotton varieties has recorded increase this year in Rajanpur district due to its capability to yield good profits.
This was stated by agriculture officers at a seminar at Dera Wali Murad Khan Mazari, Bhagsar, tehsil Rojhan, district Rajanpur, says a release issued by media liaison unit of Punjab agriculture department on Monday.
EDO agriculture Rajanpur Chaudhry Liaquat told growers that area under early Bt cotton varieties increased manifold this year due to the good profits it delivered to growers during last two to three years.
The crop remains safe from bollworm attack due to its in-built defence system i.e the Bt gene while treatment of this seed with suitable pesticides before sowing can also keep cotton safe from white fly, Thrips, mites and others during the first one month, the EDO said.
DO agriculture extension Mansha Sipra said that there was greater chances that early sown Bt cotton remains safe from virus attack and plants get enhanced number of bolls.
